Outcome Thinking and Management:  Strategies that Get Results - September 17th.

John LaRocca of the Rensselaerville Institute is coming back to Danbury to present a full-day workshop on Outcomes Thinking and Management.

Nonprofits today are often asked to prove their impact on the communities they serve. Successful organizations have moved from developing programs that address problems to delivering tangible results.

This course teaches the merits of outcome-based planning and management, and how this powerful shift in mindset can help you achieve outstanding results for those you serve. You'll learn to define success for your nonprofit and its programs; use milestones to ensure progress; verify success; and empower your staff rather than overwhelm them.  For executive directors, emerging nonprofit leaders and program managers.

This workshop is being jointly sponsored by the GDNRC and the Center for Nonprofit Excellence of Fairfield County Community Foundation.

Direct Mail for Local Non-profits: How to Make it Work for You - October 29th

Yes, Tom Ahern is back and this time he's talking about direct mail.

Everything you think you know for sure about direct mail is likely based on the math of mass-market fundraisers. And that math doesn't work at local levels. Take heart, though: direct mail is about far more than instant cash. It can be a vital contributor to the fundraising efforts of smaller and niche charities. This workshop will teach you how to properly use direct mail to build and keep your donor base.

Tom Ahern is recognized as one of North America's leading authorities on how to make nonprofit communications consistently effective.

Good Governance:  The Key to Successful Organizations - November 19th

Effective board governance is the key to high impact nonprofit organizations.   In this workshop, Mike Burns, of BWB Solutions, will discuss the nuts and bolts of effective governance.  The workshop will cover the primary roles and responsibilities of the board, how to use committees effectively, the role of the chair, how to orient new board members, and how to evaluate the effectiveness of your board.

Mike Burns joined BWB Solutions in 1994 after 15 years as Executive Director of the New Haven, Connecticut-based Development and Technical Assistance Research and Resource Center (DATA), a nonprofit management support organization that provided information, training, and consulting services in planning and organizational development. Mike serves as a facilitator and resource to nonprofits addressing issues of governance, strategic planning, business planning and marketing.  He was an associate professor of management for ten years at the Antioch-New England Graduate Schools of Organization and Management and Environmental Studies. He has published several books and articles on nonprofit governance, planning, budgeting, and proposal writing.
