November 9th, 2010 Legal Checkup for Nonprofits - This important workshop is an overview of the key legal issues for nonprofit organizations, including board roles and responsibilities proper state and federal filing requirements, employment law, sound corporate governance, political and lobbying activities, fundraising and revenue generating issues, risk management, and much more. Presenter: Maurice Segall, Director New York and Fairfield County Program, Pro Bono Partnership Maurice provides direct legal services to nonprofit groups, coordinates and supervises the work of staff and volunteer attorneys, and frequently lectures on legal issues for nonprofits and attorneys. He is an honors graduate of both the University of Delaware and Albany Law School of Union University. Maurice served for many years as the chairperson of the Pro Bono Committee of the Stamford/Norwalk Regional Bar Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Fairfield County Bar Foundation, and has served on the boards of several other Connecticut nonprofit agencies including Family and Children’s Agency (FCA), the Connecticut Consortium for Law and Citizenship Education, Connecticut Legal Services and Curtain Call, and currently serves on the Risk Management Committee of FCA. He is the founder and coordinator of the Stamford/Norwalk High School Mock Trial Competition, now in its 20th year. In 1996 Maurice was awarded the Liberty Bell Award from the Stamford/Norwalk Regional Bar for outstanding community service, the first practicing attorney ever to receive this honor.
