Danbury, CT (September 19) -,MCCA (Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism) has received $2.5 Million in financial assistance from CHFA (Connecticut Housing Finance Authority) to build 8 townhouses that will provide affordable housing to those clients who have demonstrated their commitment to recovery.  This new project named, Sunrise Terrace, will be located on a wooded lot that MCCA already owns on Larson Drive. This piece of property adjoins MCCAs headquarters at 38 Old Ridgebury Road in Danbury.

Sunrise Terrace will encompass two two story buildings that will hold a total of 8 townhouse apartments. Seven of the units will be two bedrooms and one will be a three bedroom unit. The two bedroom units will be 1.100 square feet which will include 1 and ½ baths, fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer facilities.   The three bedroom units will include 1.300 square feet of living space while also including a fully equipped kitchen and two full baths. This unit will have the added benefit of being handicap accessible.  The two buildings will be wood-frame townhouse structures that offer community rooms and two offices that will accommodate resident activities and supportive services. The exterior of the building will be vinyl siding to fit into the surrounding neighborhood.

The population that will be served at Sunrise Terrace will be single adults who have completed treatment and have demonstrated their commitment to recovery.  Old Ridgebury Road is a good location for this type of living facility because of the proximity to employment opportunities, treatment, AA meetings, shopping, restaurants, a pharmacy, the HART bus route and much more.  Further, there will be a case manager on site, as well as meeting room space for tenant meetings and presentations.  With the main MCCA facility next door, services will be nearby, property management will be eased and resident security will be enhanced.  The property will be completely drug and alcohol free and use will not be expected on or off the premises. Tenants will stay up to a year.  Tenants will have access to permanent affordable housing when they have completed this program through the case management process.

Funding is in place and MCCA is closing on the building contracts this week. Construction is slated to start immediately. The plan is to complete Sunrise Terrace within eight months time which means, that by mid-May 2008, the project should be complete.   MCCAs President, Mr. Sullivan states that: the goal of Sunrise Terrace is to provide affordable housing in one of this States most socially and economically vibrant communities. MCCA has been working on this project for 5 years and is proud to be one of 15 housing initiatives to get funded.  Building Sunrise Terrace will provide positive outcomes for area residents who need these services.
